Animatic (v.2)

As I said in my previous post, my aim was to have some form of proto-soundtrack ready for rushes this week. Well, rushes are tomorrow, and my soundtrack is proto indeed:

I've added new establishing shots, as promised; rewritten the particularly hideous diologue, as promised; and I've even forced my girlfriend to rerecorded my hideous female impression of it.
All in all, a good couple of days work. I'd have done a lot more, but I lost several days by going home for a posh Christmas do, don't you know.

I'm fairly happy with the music. It is, for want of a better phrase, much too epic for a story set in a shopping mall; and I'm slightly afraid that it distracts from the action for that reason.
The main reason for it is that I wanted something reasonably fast-paced, as this is essentially a chase, and it boiled down to either being slightly too epic or far too techno; so I chose the lesser of two evils.
In places it is too upbeat when it should be downbeat, and conversely so - and throughout it is a tiny bit too heroic for a shoplifter-cum-murderer. But it is the best I have found (and I promise that I did try a lot of musics) and I do like it.
And, for all my foibles with the main score, the ambient elevator moozak is nigh on perfect.

Animatic (v.1)

I've had this blog for almost a month now and it must look to the untrained eye as though I've not been doing any work whatsoever.
This could not be further from the truth, as I have now lost sight of an entire wall behind the masses of storyboard that I've blu-tacked there.
My animatic has also been coming together too, and it was my intention to show it today in rushes. Sadly, I didn't get my chance because it doesn't have any music yet.
That's the plan now, then - get music together, clean up some of the editing and pacing, and send it off to my composer.
It's also become apparent during boarding that, since a lot of the action and humour of the piece are based around the location (a shopping mall, by the way), I really need to fix upon a particular layout for that location - if only for continuity's sake. It would really help to have a CG mock-up of the place to work with, too; theres a definite need for some establishing shots of the mall at the beginning and having something to move a camera through would certainly help.

So all that (hopefully) by the end of next week - and muzak ready for rushes next wednesday.

But just in case you can't wait that long, here is a link to the animatic in its current, slightly dodgy, state. The pacing is a bit odd and there is a certain section of dialogue that could really do with cutting down, but I reckon that I've nailed most of the major shots.
