Told ya so!

It's only been three days, folks, and I'm back with another exciting installment!
See - I can do this blogging thing.

As promised, there are images of the finished shoplifter, showing off his well-crafted shoulders, expressive face, and funky Chinese tattoo - as well as a size-comparison and a production sketch. A pat on the head to anyone who knows what the tat says, by the way.

In other news, I have begun work on the character who, whilst technically the protagonist, is forever doomed to be called "the dead guy".
It turns out that he is the toughest challenge yet, just as I predicted. But it's not just because his carcase gets itself tangled and caught in things, but also because he is our hero.
When storyboarding, the looks of the guard and shoplifter slowly evolved until they barely needed tweaking before I could model them - but I treated ol' dead guy like he was a prop - just a generic bloke tacked on the end.
I now see that we need to be able to relate to him (even after his death) in ways that we don't relate to the other characters who are both antagonists of one sort or another.
So, where both characters before had angular faces (the shoplifter actually looks a lot like a skull), Dead Guy (I think I'll start giving them all capital letters) needs to have softer, perhaps less stylised, features.
And, of course, on top of that, Dead will be the first character with actual hair. The Guard (see below) is balding and be-hatted, and Shoplifter is apparently a burns-victim without so much as eyebrows. Dead Guy needs, not only hair, but hair that will flop around with the rest of his limp body.
So, yeah, quite a bit to think about whilst working on character the third but, happily, his face won't need to be nearly so expressive as the Shoplifter's is. Phew!

Back soon - wish me luck!

The shoplifter character is looking good but was a bit worried about the proportions of his arms against the torso, from the side those arms look too flimsy, not enough muscle on the arms to stuff large boxes down his trousers! He has the look of a young Bruce Willis or one of the Mitchell brothers, you are obviously going for a thuggish characterisation or is there something gentle about him? Was a bit confused as to the end of your animatic, couldn't see animatic version 2 on your site, maybe you could come into university and show me what you are up to? Email me...
